Kouple ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

By using Kouple, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you disagree with any part of this policy, please do not use our Service.

This policy applies to all users of Kouple, regardless of how they access the Service.

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

• Account information: name, email address, password (hashed), date of birth (for age verification)
• Profile information: profile photo, relationship start date, display name
• User-generated content: photos, love letters, memory captions, check-in messages
• Communications: messages to our support team

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Device information: device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers
• App usage data: features used, session duration, crash reports
• Location data (optional, only with explicit permission): GPS coordinates for Life Path feature

2.3 Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect payment information directly (processed by Apple/Google)
• We do not access your contacts, camera roll, or microphone without explicit permission
• We do not collect biometric data

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Kouple Service
• Enable the couple pairing and sharing features
• Send notifications relevant to your use of the Service
• Calculate relationship milestones and achievements
• Respond to your support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data to serve advertisements or sell it to third parties.

4.1 With Your Partner

Certain information is shared with your paired partner as part of the core Kouple experience: memories you add, love letters you send, daily check-ins, mood updates, and Life Path location (if enabled). This sharing is the fundamental purpose of the app.

4.2 Service Providers

We share data with trusted service providers who assist us in operating Kouple: cloud storage providers (encrypted), push notification services, crash analytics providers. All providers are contractually bound to protect your data.

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process (e.g., court order), or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Kouple, our users, or the public.

4.4 We Never Sell Your Data

We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for commercial purposes.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

• All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3
• All stored data is encrypted using AES-256
• User content is stored in access-controlled, encrypted cloud storage
• Access to production data is strictly limited and logged

No system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at contact@getkouple.com.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account:

• Your profile and all user-generated content are marked for deletion immediately
• All personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days
• Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely
• Backup copies are purged within 90 days

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you
• Rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data
• Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data
• Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable format
• Restriction: Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances
• Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for optional data collection at any time

To exercise these rights, use the in-app data controls in Settings or contact contact@getkouple.com.

The Life Path feature uses location data. This is entirely optional and requires explicit permission. You can:

• Enable location sharing from Settings → Location Sharing
• Disable it at any time - this immediately stops all location collection
• Choose between "While Using App" or "Always On" on iOS

Location data shared via Life Path is visible only to your paired partner. It is not stored beyond 24 hours for real-time location; journey history is retained until you delete it.

Kouple is not intended for users under the age of 12. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at contact@getkouple.com and we will delete it promptly.

Kouple is operated from Sri Lanka and your data may be processed in countries with different data protection laws. We ensure all international transfers comply with applicable law using Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and other appropriate safeguards.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or prominent in-app notice at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of Kouple after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
